Caesar’s Tennis Classic
HD Production Services... Tennis Anyone?
PMTV served up a production ace as over seven thousand spectators turned out for the Caesar’s Tennis Classic at historic Boardwalk Hall, setting a new attendance record for a tennis event in Atlantic City. PMTV was selected to provide HD production services by Bluewater Media of Clearwater, Florida, who taped the event for their Tennis Channel special – “Ivan Lendl: Return of a Champion”.
The exhibition featured tennis legend Ivan Lendl in his first match since retiring sixteen years ago, and US Open Champions Mats Vilander, Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick, and Marat Safin. Tennis star Venus Williams co-hosted the event with her French Open mixed doubles partner Justin Gimelstob. The high-energy event was a hit with the enthusiastic crowd – featuring great tennis and on-court interviews conducted by Williams and Gimelstob between matches. The players were loose and at times comedic – talking trash with each other and engaging in playful exchanges with the crowd, judges, and court attendants.
For the production, PMTV provided a 53’ Expando High Definition Production Unit, TV Crew, and on-site editing facilities. Production workflow was enhanced with the addition of a Panasonic AJ-HPM100P P2 ENG camera and a Panasonic AJ-HPM100P P2 portable recorder / editor to the standard mobile unit equipment – which allowed Bluewater to get a fast start on post production of their program while still on-site. Bluewater brought their own compliment of P2 cameras and media cards which were used to record interviews, B Roll, and Hand-Held shots of the matches to supplement the five-camera switched program record. The truck cameras were ISO recorded to provide additional editing options in post.
A feed of the program was also provided to the house video system for inclusion in the arena’s videoboard production.
