ZAIN Satellite Conference Africa
PMTV Provides Satellite Solution

PMTV Services 15 Nations in Africa.
When mobile telecommunications giant Zain announced it was acquiring mobile communications service providers in 15 African nations and planned to launch a continent wide conference to announce it’s re-branding program, PMTV was called upon to provide the satellite video and communications services for the live event. The event was hosted from Johannesburg South Africa and remote locations included 15 nations with 17 unique satellite transponder paths required for the project. The 15 remote site nations included Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
One of the biggest challenges on the project was a lack of satellite transponders available to the locations on the African continent. With only five occasional use transponders with footprints over Africa, PMTV’s task was to provide constant connectivity to all locations during the three day event. The solution… Redirecting the beams from a recently launch satellite that had not begun full customer service mode. PMTV's research team found that the SES Astra 4A spacecraft was available for an AD HOC booking before it was scheduled to begin carrying permanent programming. PMTV requested redirection of four 36 MHz transponders to enable coverage from the north 20th parallel to the south 20th parallel. PMTV utilized the combined 144 MHz inventory to slice and dice a variety of bandwidths beams from 6 MHz to 18 MHz depending on the need at each location. The end result was a fully functional ad hoc video and communications solution for our corporate customers.
